GOTS

Organic certification

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. These are standards developed to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer that the garmenst they are considering purchasing is organic. The standards lay down the criteria to ensure the organic status of textiles, from cotton farming though the harvesting, spinning, weaving and manufacturing.

Labour

The textile industry is very labour intensive and GOTS standards require compliance with international labour standards. The GOTS website gives full detailed up to date information of its standards. Unlike the Soil Association which is predominately food orientated GOTS is specifically for the textile industry.

An organic garments that meets these standards can be GOTS certified.

Genetic modification
